Sam is an uber-networker, savvy, helpful, product-oriented leader who had a great eye for young entrepreneurs and a passion about helping them. Throughout 2012 & 2013 we funded many companies and then pulled together a second fund. This is just a quick summary. So we went for it. What have I learned?

They feel very confident they can hit $18 – 20 million in 2012. So assume that in 2012 the company would do $20 million in sales and $2 million in profits (10%) and 2013 they would do sales of $25 million and $4 million in profit (16% net margin) and then slow growth in 2014 to $30 million and $6 million in profit (20% profit).

Summary of Montgomery & Co’s views on the road ahead for tech M&A of venture backed companies: (the whole presentation is later in the post, which I suggest you look at because it has insightful data. More interestingly Montgomery expect the M&A market to grow to 600 in 2011 and 750 in 2012.

To interconnect these computers we needed IP-based telecommunications equipment build by the likes of Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks. And when you think about the three C’s you begin to realize that the first two of these activities are ones where the economic powerhouse networks are driven in cities outside of Silicon Valley.
