I started advice with the premise that no amount of exercise or food eating plan would help with long-term fitness or weight goals unless you first had a mental plan and a set of measurements to track your progress. Based on my own experience in business over the years, and current coaching efforts, I recommend a focus on the following strategies and attributes: Make your customer the center of everything you do. Your influence level goes up when your offering is available for a limited time, or highly personalized to each customer.
Every business owner and professional I know is struggling with their own workload, yet they let themselves get signed up for other people’s work, either out of frustration that things aren’t getting done, or guilt, or just plain sympathy. Offer one-minute mentoring up front, and stick to it. Don’t do it.

HR leaders are your culture coaches, and responsible for aligning managers and employees with the desired culture. Getting those key people, including hiring, training, and coaching takes a long time to accomplish. Start with addressing specific things that your team needs to more consistently know, feel, and do.
Regularly asking for insight, and then following up, to fix these wasted efforts, will improve job satisfaction, as well as productivity. Of course, keeping up with the technology on tools is a never-ending task, and it costs money. Many companies also promote local mentoring and coaching opportunities.
Often it’s tempting to bring up prior issues to make a point, but this approach is fraught with the danger of escalating emotions and potential misunderstandings. Save the generalized discussions and feedback for scheduled mentoring and coaching sessions, rather than the daily impromptu strategy or problem solving meetings.

That means a priority on coaching and mentoring, as well as training and tools, before focusing on results metrics. Start today by acquiring a mentor, as well as really listening to some trusted voices around you.
