Despite many years of advising aspiring entrepreneurs and people in business, I continue to be surprised by the number of people who wait for decisions to be made by default, or allow others to make decisions for them. For most people these criteria would include relevant finances, experience, interest, and satisfaction.
Yet, in my daily role as an advisor to entrepreneurs and small business owners, struggling to boost revenues, profits, and earnings, I still see too many managers falling back on command-and-control, a focus on weaknesses, and not enough time for people. Team members want development plus satisfaction. Change is hard.

Quantify your results in terms of cost per transaction, higher customer satisfaction, lower prices, and profit per employee, rather than number of transactions or hours worked. I often recommend to technical entrepreneurs (logical) that they team with a cofounder who has a business perspective (emotional customer appeal). People with different values and different perspectives from your own lead to better decisions and innovation – ultimately growing your business success and your satisfaction.
You need to have these as backup, in case the gig economy catches up to you, or you need a side hustle for extra income, or being in control of your dream role as an entrepreneur finally becomes a passion. Doing good, like helping society and planet sustainability, is a key to maximizing satisfaction, as well as profit.
