One of the largest concentrations of technical talent in Los Angeles is in Glendale, at YP (www.yp.com) -- staffed with a surprising number of Los Angeles startup vets. I had also spent five years at Overture and Yahoo, going back to the Goto.com days. The last group, on the technical side, is platform data services.

Los Angeles. And we’re left with a city with idyllic weather, major commerce, the media center of the world, and a great emerging technology scene. You don’t have the founders of eBay, LinkedIn, Salesforce.com and Yahoo. People either love it our hate it. All the stereotypes and caricatures are overblown.

One of the startups in that area--born out of a.NET development organization here in Los Angeles--is FatCloud (www.fatcloud.com), which develops a NoSQL database which ties directly into Microsoft''s SQL Server database.
