Los Angeles-based CarsDirect has launched a new feature today, aimed at helping consumers figure out if it's a good time to buy a new car. Santa Monica-based Zag, the online car buying software firm headed by former CarsDirect CEO Scott Painter, has spun out a new company called TrueCar, the firm said late Wednesday. According to TrueCar, it will provide information about new car pricing, using the actual price people have paid for cars.
Weinrot also previously has served at such companies as CarsDirect, DIsney Online, and BonusMail (MyPoints). Weinrot was previously Chief Marketing Officer and Divisional President for Shopzilla/Bizrate, where he had been for over 14 years.
Scott Painter is the CEO of TrueCar/Zag, and was also previously CEO of CarsDirect, and has been incubating a number of companies out of his Santa Monica-based BrightHouse incubator. No details on that funding have been announced by the company. SharesPost had originally been based in Santa Monica.
The firm was originally known as CarsDirect, the automotive buying site of Idealab, and was headed by Scott Painter--who is now head of both Zag Automotive and TrueCar. The firm changed its name to Internet Brands in June of 2005, and hit the markets with its IPO in November of 2007.
Scott Painter was the founder of TrueCar, CarsDirect, and Fair.com. Power's data for comprehensive dataset for vehicle valuations, residual value forecasts and insights on consumer preferences and experiences, according to Painter. NXCR quitely raised $30M in funding back in February.
