One of my recent fun experiences was doing a presentation at Harvard Business School (HBS) on the implications of Web 2.0 type tools (Blogs, Wikis, Social Bookmarking, RSS, RSS Readers) on corporate learning and someone like HBS. Been traveling and consulting with a bunch of early-stage and growth companies.
Normally the product is defined as a web site. Most founders are fairly passionate about the features and functions of the web site, iPhone application, Facebook application, or whatever web application represents the product. What applications and web sites have you been using? For me, my number one application is email.
Almost every day I'm talking to early stage startup founders (see Free Startup CTO Consulting Sessions ) about what they plan to do. Do you need to provide RSS? Beyond simple web analytics, what is needed? I tend to ask a lot of questions, challenge aspects, make suggestions. Does it need to playback on mobile devices?
Great content again in September that meets at the intersection of startups, technology, product and being a Startup CTO. But the other piece of the argument is, of course, an argument for why your company should build open source - why it should develop its technology in a community-driven, open sourced way. Here it is.

But the web site visitors are accurate. I keep my blogs separate from by company web site. Subscribe the the RSS feed for each of these. Over the past 12 months, I've had roughly 284,000 people come visit that site and get exposed to things I write. I have more than 10,000 subscribers and roughly 1,000 per day see my posts.
