The first thing I do is suggest they explore if they really need to hire a full-time CTO for their startup and if so, what kind of CTO they need.

Poor machine, screen, connection, chair. If your developers have a better machine, screen, internet connection, or chair at home than they do in the office, then there’s a problem. I.e., they need a developer more than they need a CTO. Many are not interested in 3rd party technologies that can streamline development.

Coincident has created a platform that will allow storytellers and producers to create robust second screen stories on the fly that incorporate video, images and other web content. WOW, right? has accomplished.
We asked the same four questions of a variety of top technology entrepreneurs, investors, and others, to hear what they're thinking about, and are sharing it here over the next week. Aber Whitcomb is a partner at startup co-working and incubation community io/LA , CTO of SGN , and former co-founder and CTO of MySpace.
We went out on the Android and Blackberry, and as we were going out to market, we realized that we could use that consumer launch as a proving ground for our technology, and leverage that to the B2B market. When I joined the company, I found an amazing technology platform and analytics capability. We're really headed for three screens.
By the way, I should point out that the four top articles on the site when I took the screen shot were all great: The Long Grind Before You Become an Overnight Success - Vinicius Vacanti , September 12, 2011 Hacking Angel List | VentureArchetypes Blog: Seed Stage Capital - Seed Stage Capital , July 13, 2011 Hiring a CTO for Your Startup - SoCal CTO (..)

There are two ways you can use the app -- you can either play your iPad like it is a real instrument, by strumming the touch screen. About a week later, our CTO was in Japan, and calls me, saying he had a crazy idea for a music, app, and he'd tell me about it when he got back. Notice also that on the user screen (Alan Edgett), you can give a badge, vote for Alan, request an endorsement, send a message or give an endorsement. Possibly too easy as it likely devalues them a bit. More on this below. You can either first choose a badge and then award it or choose a user and award a badge.

This time on mysterious party bus to nowhere but situated with the CTO & Cofounder of Living Social, Aaron Batalion. After dinner with a film distributor dear friend of mine, Janet Brown (check out FilmBuff ) I caught an interesting screening of a new film, Surrogate Valentine with Gary Chou of USV. I like that idea.
We've had a lot of advisors along the way, in the financial and technology realm, which has helped us with everything. The biggest transition for us, was taking on a co-founder, our CTO, who has the really intensive tech background. We also had awesome group of mentors that included: David Waxman (Co-founder of PeoplePC, Spot Runner and Firefly Network), Paige Craig (CEO of BetterWorks ), Josh MacAdam (Co-founder/CTO at Ming.ly Also of note was Ryan Orrico’s launch of HandJob, a new form of job applicant screening and referral tracking.

That CES was in 2013, and there wasn't a lot on the market at the time. I think in terms of wearables, Pebble was the only thing that was out.
If both the CEO and the CTO are needed to attend an important meeting out of town, who will fulfill their roles of running the company smoothly? During the finals, we’ve witnessed both teams shouting out to each other during a play to communicate if a player is open for a shot or if a there is a screen the ball handler may not be aware of.
As larger, more established rich media providers have struggled to retool for the new mobile media universe, the Jetpack platform was built entirely in Java and HTML5, giving publishers and advertisers the ability to design unique units once and serve them seamlessly across all screens.

I asked some of the same questions I ask in my Free Startup CTO Consulting Sessions and then I get to a very common conversation: Me : Do you have specs? We had a pretty simple screen, and it had a circle, and it told you how many minutes you were active. A lot of apps these days have so many features that it’s very confusing.
