I spend a lot of time with startups and thus hear many companies talk about their approach to sales and their interactions with customers. From these meetings you can really tell the leaders that care deeply about their customers and those the look down on them. You’d be very wrong. Contrast that with a VC conversation I had.
But if you level up , raise capital and grow customers, revenue and staff – life changes. You help them prioritize their objectives and review the results. They talk to customers, operations, sales, marketing and engineering to determine the company product roadmap. Entrepreneurs should care more about respect.
The message I hear publicly from most entrepreneurs is that you have to think outside the box and take big risks to ever beat the odds and be among the less than ten percent that experience real success. Don’t look to customers for breakthrough ideas. Advanced degrees won’t help you run your startup. All risks are not the same.
