The formation of Hulu was defensive – designed to stop another YouTube or Napster from emerging and causing disruption to the TV industry. To say that the tech elite were cynical of Hulu’s launch would be an understatement , but by the time it launched just a few months later it was getting great reviews.

We''re now in beta, and are incorporating services like iTunes, Amazon, and Hulu, and will be incorporating more (this) year. When we first alpha tested this, we just had watchable entertainment, movies and TV, many of them popping up in second screen apps. What''s the business model behind this?

In SoCal we are also leaders in affiliate marketing (Commission Junction), Internet video (Hulu) and bringing local businesses online (ReachLocal). He obviously believes this since he has become CEO of TopSpin Media – a firm designed to do just that. We are also home to DemandMedia (Richard Rosenblatt) and Mahalo (Jason Calacanis).

The need for creativity extends well beyond product design. Yet most startups seem to constrain creativity to product design. Just as in this post, I thought about the structure before letting the words flow out of my head and on to the screen. I did this when I talked about my metaphor that Hulu was like Opec.
