They started by offering cloud storage (S3) on a super cheap, pay-as-you consume basis. They came from a different perspective. They have the mass retailer mentality of “stack ‘em high and sell ‘em cheap.&# Every startup I knew in 2005 (when I started my second company) was using this.

MySpace was: scantily dressed, teenaged, middle-America, design chaos and on ad steroids. At the bottom end of the stack is storage (S3) and processing (EC2). Facebook had grown stratospherically from 2004-2007 to 100 million users and was everything that MySpace wasn’t. Social Networking Will Split Into Layers.
