Calabasas-based Ixia, which develops test hardware and software for the networking market, announced this morning that it has selected Plexus Corp. as its strategic supply chain solutions provider. According to Ixia, Plexus will manufacture its test, measurement, and service verification products. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Ixia's products are used for IP network testing, including products for testing Gigabit Ethernet, IPTV, broadband services, VoIP, and network security.
Ventura-based Aquea Scientific, which develops a UVA/UVB sunscreen which can be washed on or applied in the shower, has quietly raised $10.955M in funding. The funding was first disclosed in the PricewaterhouseCOopers/NVCA MoneyTree venture capital report over the weekend. No details of the funding have been released by the company, however, the firm is listed as a portfolio holding of the Hawaii Angels and McGovern Capital.
Santa Barbara-based SpectraFluidics Inc., a developer of handheld chemical-detection devices, reported Tuesday that Casey Hare has joined the firm as vice president of systems engineering. San Diego-based Sequenom, a developer of genetic analysis products, is making a hostile bid for a competitor, EXACT Sciences Corporation, shortly after an offer was rejected by Exact's board. Sequenom said this morning that it has offered to acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock of EXACT Sciences, for $41M, or $1.50 per share in Sequenom common stock.
Laguna Niguel-based Symwave, a venture backed firm focused on analog and mixed signal semiconductors, said Tuesday that it has added Vahid Manian as a member of the firm's Technical Advisory Board. Laguna Beach-based OrthAlign said Wednesday that the firm has raised $7.2M in a Series A funding round, in what looks to be the first announced Southern California venture deal in 2009. The funding was led by Research Corporation Technologies and Okapi Venture Capital, and also included seed investors D. Ronald Yogada, Ned Scheetz, and CEO Pieter Wolters, along with other undisclosed private investors.
Aliso Viejo-based Smith Micro Software is in a deal to publish and distribute MashON Spore Comic Book Creator, a software program which allows users to create their own comic books based on the popular video game Spore. According to Smith Micro Software, the deal with Planetwide Games will allow the firm to publish and distribute the title through its retail and distribution channel.
Lake Forest-based Comarco announced today that the firm has completed its sale of its wireless test solutions business to Ascom Holding AG. Comarco said the sale was worth $12.75M in cash. Comarco originally announced the sale of the business in September. The firm said the sales of the wireless test business will save it approximately $4.8M in annual costs, from salaries, benefits, and associated facilities.
San Diego-based Staccato Communications, which develops ultra-wideband (UWB) and wireless USB technology, has scored a design win with Imation. Staccato said that Imation will use the firm's USB solution as part of a wireless projector system. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Staccato's chips will be used as part of the Imation Wireless Projection Link, which allows multiple users to share a conference or meeting projector.
San Diego-based ParAccel, which develops database appliances used to accelerate database queries, said today that it has doubled its workforce over the past year, and has moved into new offices. Irvine-based Broadcom will lay off 200 workers, or about 3 percent of the firm's employees, the firm said yesterday on its earnings call. According to Broadcom, the company is looking to manage its costs and focus on operating cash flow, and is implementing cost saving measures including delaying salary increases, a reduction in workforce, and a variety of other "belt-tightening" actions.
Santa Monica-based Outcast , a privately held provider of out-of-home advertising networks, said Thursday that the firm is expanding its network to New York. Outcast said its Fuelcast Network--an ad network which goes to gas stations--will expand to New York, bringing its number of locations to more than 900. G-Technology Inc., a manufacturer of audio/video data storage devices, revealed earlier this week that it has signed a U.S. distribution deal with global IT supplier Ingram Micro Inc. According to G-Technology, Ingram Micro will carry G-Tech's entire line of storage solutions, including its USB, FireWire, eSATA, SCSI and Fibre Channel systems. Additionally, G-Technology noted, Ingram Micro will market and support G-Tech's external storage drives as part of Ingram Micro's Components division.
