Venice-based Snap , the parent company of Snapchat , is continuing in its quest to add hardware to its products, with the introduction of its third generation Spectacles , the Spectacles 3. Snap has started taking pre-orders for the pricey glasses, capable of capturing 3D content, for the price of only $380. Snap says that the new Spectacles can capture both 3D photos and videos at 60 fps, and includes four built-in microphones for capturing immersive audio.

Irvine-based NextGen Healthcare , a provider of software for the medical, behavioral and dental provider market, has acquired Medfusion , a developer of "patient experience" software, in a deal worth $43M in cash, the company announced this morning. NextGen Healthcare said it expects the acquisition to close in early December 2019. NextGen said the deal will help it expand its market reach.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX is getting set to launch 60 additional Starlink satellites today, with a target launch of 6:56 a.m. PST, from its lauchpad at Cape Canaveral. According to SpaceX, the new set of Starlink satellites will fly on a previously flown Falcon 9, along with a previously flown fairing. The launch will nearly double the number of Starlink satellites that SpaceX has launching into space; the company already has launched 62 satellites, the first in thousands planned by SpaceX.

San Diego-based COI Pharmaceuticals , the life sciences incubator and support entity created by Avalon Ventures to support its portfolio companies, says that one of its companies, Calporta Therapeutics , has been acquired by Merck. The deal is worth up to $576M, including upfront payments and contingent milestone payments. Calporta had been developing treatments for various lysosomal storage and neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Ventura-based The Trade Desk , the publicly traded provider of online ad-serving technology, says its Chief Financial Office, Paul Ross, is retiring. Ross had been the CFO of The Trade Desk since 2014, and was in charge during the company's IPO. According to The Trade Desk, it has appointed Blake Grayson, a veteran of Amazon, as its new CFO. Grayson was previously Vice President, Finance, for Amazon's International Consumer business.

Los Angeles-based J2 Global is looking to raise $500M in convertible debt from institutinoal buyers, the company said late Monday, to pay off an existing senior secured credit facility and for general corporate purposes, possibly including acquisitions. According to J2 Global, the new convertible senior notes will be due in 2026. J2 Global says that it does not have any agreements or commitments for any "material acquisitions" or investments at this time.
