The disadvantage is that you can’t install a lot of additional tools that use Javascript. The obvious starting point is to email a few friends and let them know you have a new blog. That way people who want to get your blog by RSS and/or email can do so. Hell, I often can’t even get to email during the day.

Don’t be overbearing – just an email saying, wanted to let you know about my new blog. At least that’s true in Wordpress.
Set aside 5 minutes, get your cut and paste skills ready and prepare to collect analytics data via the 2 lines or so of JavaScript provided by Google with your account. Where they go wrong is focusing on the goal behaviors such as “collect an email” or “add an item to the shopping cart” all the way to “spend $10.00 to buy my eBook”.
