The disadvantage is that you can’t install a lot of additional tools that use Javascript. The obvious starting point is to email a few friends and let them know you have a new blog. That way people who want to get your blog by RSS and/or email can do so. Hell, I often can’t even get to email during the day.

Where they go wrong is focusing on the goal behaviors such as “collect an email” or “add an item to the shopping cart” all the way to “spend $10.00 to buy my eBook”.

The problem with most of the share badges out there is that they load a Javascript file from an external source which can take several seconds on a bad day. Javascript calls are an easy way for Facebook and StumbleUpon to put their links on your page but most networks also have a way to share through a URL. Thanks for the comment!
