BuddyHelp was launched in this proto-Internet environment and was immediately used by businesses to provide hands-on technicalsupport. At companies such as SaskTel, Gateway and Cablevision, customer support agents used BuddyHelp to access their customers’ computers and handle their technicalsupport issues.
Anyone, including well-healed, large companies, could offer state-of-the-art technicalsupport for free. Not surprisingly, we received a litany of hate email from freeloaders admonishing us for taking away their free service. Thus, the initial launch of BuddyHelp did not restrict commercial usage.
In fairness, they also attempted to belatedly reposition the company as a smartphone competitor, abandoning their email-centric devices upon which they had created a multi-billion dollar enterprise. dotbomb crash, we abandoned the technicalsupport marketplace and began licensing our screen-sharing technology.
