Twiistup 6 has come to an end. Out is the “cocktail only&# Twiistup and in is the new format of a conference that should take its rightful place on the national technology calendar. I believe that Twiistup is now a platform from which to grow and highlight what is uniquely LA. Much of this was highlighted at Twiistup.
Los Angeles area startups and would-be entrepreneurs were gathered Thursday as a part of the annual Twiistup technology conference, being held at the Skirball Center. The startup event--which continues until tonight--included keynotes by David Cohen of TechStars, Suneel Gupta of Groupon, Loic Le Meur of Seesmic, and many others.
Los Angeles-based Chromatik , which is developing a web-based, music learning products, took the top honors at the Twiistup Showoff event Thursday night. The startup, headed by Matt Sandler, was voted tops out of eight total companies who pitched their startups to attendees and judges at the Los Angeles area technology event.

Los Angeles-based ExpenseBay scored the top award--a Lego trophy--at last week's Twiistup startup showcase event, rising above 11 other startups looking to strut their stuff to investors, angel investors, entrepreneurs, and others at the Universal Hilton on Thursday and Friday. Nazar--who moderated a panel on the venture capital industry in Los Angeles at Twiistup 8 yesterday, and who is considered by many to be one of the key "super connectors" in the LA technology community--took a few minutes with us to give his advice to startup entrepreneurs. At the Twiistup panel last week, there was a debate over whether big companies could be created here, which is ridiculous--Demand Media is the latest example there, we've got Cornerstone OnDemand coming out soon, and there is no question there are market leading, large revenue companies coming out of Southern California.
