Indio, California-based Helicoid Idustries , a startup developing advanced composite materials for use in the wind turbine, aerospace, sporting goods, auto parts, defense, and industrial market, has raised $2.4M--the first part of what looks like an ongoing $5M investment round. Helicoid is a spinout of the University of California Riverside.

San Diego-based Deckard Technologies , a new startup founded by serial entrepreneur Neil Senturia, said on Monday that it has raised $4M in funding and launched a new company focused on using artificial intelligence (AI) to identify property tax scofflaws. The company said its latest funding was worth $500,000.

Water Planet is led by Eric Hoek, the former UCLA and UC Riverside professor who created the membrane technology behind another, water filtering membrane startup, NanoH2O, which is now part of LG.
