Dave told us a bit more about the Viterbi Startup Garage and several other associated efforts there at USC centered around the startup ecosystem. The Startup Garage is an incubator which gives preference to USC teams, or startups that are USC affiliated in some way, for example, alumni-led. What is Viterbi Startup Garage?

And while none has yet had the lasting power of the much bigger NorCal successes I imagine his next moves will continue to be closely watched by those in the know and the countless younger LA entrepreneurs who count Rosenblatt as a mentor may leave an even more lasting impact. Mike Tringe earned his BA in History and Science from Harvard, and his MFA in Film Production from USC. He’s worked as an English and Film teacher at the American School of Tangier, and has also assistant taught film production at USC. Sara Akhteh received her BA in Film Theory from UCSC and her MFA from USC in Production.

SMASHD’s first Cohort brought four early-stage + one mature company into the fold: Sidestep : Mobile platform for live events that allows fans to order merchandise before, during and after an event for VIP pickup and delivery, who has relationships in place with Ticketmaster, and is a merch partner on Beyonce’s latest tour.

We also did a company in Northern California, Weoutta, which is a consumer app for making future plans, which is built on top of a pretty robust data platform. I was just at USC yesterday, and they''re really focused on great things in science in engineering. What do you see in the technology area that made you want to focus there?
