I continue to be amazed that more than a quarter of new businesses don’t even have a website , and many more don’t pay attention to social media, or monitor feedback on sites like Yelp. At minimum, that requires a modern website, and visibility on relevant social media sites, likely including Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Customers won’t pay to see your new employees learning on the job, and outsourcing the real work to a cheap labor source is a recipe for disaster. Be accessible on social media, write a blog or articles for industry publications, and participate in conference panels and speaking engagements.

Outsourcing and working from home needs coordination. In the early days of outsourcing, I was led to believe that it would reduce the need for local managers.
