Recently I wrote a post arguing to make the definition of a Startup more inclusive than that to which Silicon Valley, fueled by Venture Capital return profiles, would sometimes like to attach to the word. Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate.

Sales lagged. While other groups tested other fish oils and found no evidence of concrete cardiovascular benefits , Amarin pressed on with a massive study, bleeding cash for years. But Amarin didn’t have the evidence that lowering triglycerides with fish oil would really help people. Amarin’s shares sank.

First, let’s cover basic components you’d see in a letter of intent for a startup M&A deal: — The sticker price : The cost to acquire the target. — The structure : Will the deal be an asset sale? A stock sale? A startup might balk at the buyer’s proposed package for management retention and compensation.

Having time to think about “leadership” at most startups feels like a luxury. The reality of most startups is about survival. If people don’t know the mission there is no way to achieve the objective and you end up with a team pulling in 100 different directions – even if only by small amounts.

TechCrunch Europe ran an article in November of last year that European startups need to work as hard as those in Silicon Valley and I echoed the sentiment in my post about the need for entrepreneurs to be maniacal about their businesses if one wants to work in the hyper competitive tech world. We were based in London.
