Our interview this morning is with David Sacks, CEO of Geni.com, an online family tree and social networking site, as well as Yammer, the instant messaging startup spun out of Geni.com at TechCrunch50. We're up to around 2 million users who have created 30 million profiles on the site, and it's growing very fast month over month.

Craig has recruited the co-creater of Zynga's Farmville game, Sizhao Yang, as well as George Ishii, who was co-founder of Geni.com and Yammer, as co-founders. BetterWorks looks to be scaling up dramatically; the firm currently has eight open positions listed on its web site for everything from engineers to marketing director.

Los Angeles-based Geni , the online family tree and genealogy web site started by David Sacks, was hit by unexpected downtime Tuesday and today, the firm told its users Wednesday afternoon. RedBeacon was the 3rd winner (year 1: Yammer, year 2: Mint.com) – not bad company. Ethan had pointed out to me that merchants were being barraged by “deal site” wanting to drive customers in the door but they didn’t have great tools to manage their customers. The company was called Red Beacon. Nice sweep!

Geni.com beget Yammer. They had started to launch new products that helped web site owners better load applications from third-party vendors and they started experimenting with totally new ad models that drove the daily revenue up by 7x in less than 30 days. I could go on and on. Great entrepreneurs pivot.
