Just the kind of person I like to meet. :) But I was a bit surprised when he emphasized how hard it had been for them to find a webdeveloper in Los Angeles. My flippant comment was, “If you do a Google search for Los Angeles webdeveloper, you’ll find a LOT of people and firms.” Or at least not development to any depth.
In one of the newest "hackathons" to hit SouthernCalifornia, a group of companies are looking to draw Orange County software developers to a new hackathon, geared around WebRTC, the open "Web Real Time Communications" framework aimed at helping developers create voice and video chat applications.
Anyone looking for signs that the economy is turning around, might want to look at what appears to be happening in SouthernCalifornia's technology jobs market.

SoCal Code Camp is at it again, getting together an amazing pool of experts to speak in front of fellow developers and developers-in-training here in Los Angeles. This fun conference will have over 85 sessions on various technologies including WebDevelopment, Mobile, Ruby , Javascript and more.

I am hearing from my project management team a bit of distrust in the technical capacity of our webdevelopment team. I think we suffer because of the distance and culture but the project management team takes every late delivery or small bug as evidence that the development team may not be capable.
Lots of angels are passive, but we were in a position where as angels we knew the company didn't have the management, but had a wonderful idea and promise, that we had some leading SoCal VCs interested, and what we concluded collectively was that the company needed to add management capability.
