It wasn’t so many years ago that starting a new e-commerce business on the Internet was a complex custom development project, usually costing a million dollars or more. It never happened in any time frame I can remember, and it definitely won’t happen today. A programmer can build a new smartphone app for a few thousand dollars.

I originally conceived it as the Top 11 things that I believe “all entrepreneurs need to succeed.&# If it stuck to this theme then I would stand by my top 11. So sticking to my definition of “attributes for success&# it had to be my Top 11 +1 rather than a Top 12. Made ME laugh, anyways. That’s OK.

Steve is also a Stanford Professor and noted marketing entrepreneur. The Lean Startup approach dictates that successful customer development is an iterative process. By conceptualizing, selling, gathering feedback and then developing a product, startups achieve success more quickly and economically.

At this time I can tell you that the Brits definitely didn’t have a culture of failure. There were tons of young entrepreneurs showing their latest Web 2.0 So, definition: when I talk about a business plan I’m not talking about a 40-page Word document outlining your market approach. That died with waterfall software development. I won’t need to hire many engineers or customer support staff.
