On Tuesday of this week, we kicked off a pair of EC2 instances and a pair of our i7 workstations to produce updated data. We dive right in with the EC2 JSON test results, but please read to the end where we include important notes about what has changed since last week. First up is data from the EC2 m1.large large instances.

The results web site has been improved with test-type and hardware-type navigation, allowing you to share links to a specific results chart, such as Round 6, Fortunes on EC2. We caution all readers to review the source code of each test when interpreting the plaintext numbers.

Manhattan Beach-based CapLinked , which operates a software service to help companies communicate with investors, is one of the firms caught by the widespread Amazon EC2 downtime today. CapLinked said in its blog that its site is temporarily unavailable due to Amazon's hosting service issues. READ MORE>>.

Many companies would love to be able to get the benefits of cloud--easy configurability, low cost, scaling, and more--but, due to various reasons, can''t take advantage of public cloud services like Amazon. Amazon EC2 would be considered fully managed cloud, which also happens to be off premise.
